When it comes to your child’s health, early prevention matters, and that includes safeguarding their teeth. At Leitchfield Pediatrics, we believe dental health is a key part of a child’s overall well-being. That’s why we include dental screenings as part of your child’s regular well visits.
Pediatricians are often the first healthcare providers to spot potential dental concerns. While we don’t replace your child’s dentist, we do assess tooth and gum health during routine exams. This gives us an opportunity to catch early signs of decay, misalignment, or delayed tooth eruption. It’s also a good time to talk about brushing habits, nutrition, and fluoride.
We recommend that children have dental screenings at every well-child visit, starting by their first birthday. During these visits, we’ll look for visible issues like cavities, swelling, or injuries. If there are concerns, we’ll guide you on next steps and refer you to a pediatric dentist if needed.
At each check, one of our Leitchfield, Kentucky, providers will examine your child’s teeth and gums. We might ask about thumb-sucking, bottle or pacifier use, and whether your child sees a dentist. If your child hasn’t had their first dental visit yet, we’ll help you figure out when and how to get started. We’re here to answer your questions, from how to clean baby teeth to what snacks to avoid.
We encourage families to begin dental visits around age one and continue them every six months. Leitchfield Pediatrics’ role is to support those visits with additional monitoring and guidance. If your child doesn’t yet have a dentist, we can help connect you with local options in Leitchfield and the surrounding area.
Routine dental checks in our office help children get used to having their mouths examined. It’s a simple step that supports comfort and confidence when they see a dentist. We want to make dental health feel like a normal, manageable part of growing up.
Dr. John Evans, Dr. Anthony Smith, Dr. Jessika Young-Purcell, and Dr. Elizabeth Stivers take a whole-child approach to care. That means paying attention to physical, developmental, and dental health at every stage.
